Natick Rotary Sprocket 2/9/16

President Trish called the meeting to order, Dr. Sharpe led the club in the Pledge of Allegiance, Verna led us in ‘You Are My Sunshine’, and President Trish read us a poem about snow written by a ten year old. It was lovely.

Today’s Guests:Guest speaker David Oliver, Jeff Lembeck.

Announcements: Thursday Feb 11 is next open door.

Guest: David Oliver from MoveWell Chiropractic. David had owned his practice in Newton for 5 years. He offers simple exercises to correct health and improve movement.

The biggest contributing factor to back pain is Lumbar spine flexion. The lumbar is the lower back, flexion is movement that can cause pressure. Too much pressure can lead to a bulged or herniated disk.

Examples of flexion are sitting, lifting, bending, etc. The body is meant to move and too much sitting is terrible for the back – as are traditional sit-ups.

David showed the club a simple exercise that helps to bend without adding flexion. The technique was to bend at the hips, using the hips like a hinge. The club mastered the movement instantly.
