The meeting was called to order by President, Trish Kelly, Sergeant at Arms Sharon Sharpe led us in the Pledge of Allegiance. Peter Golden led us in a singing of “My Country Tis of Thee”, and Dr. Keefe gave the invocation.

Guest Speaker
Peter Golden narrated a slide show featuring images from the Northway Truck Company, Circa 1918. The Northway Factory was located on the site of what is now the National Guard Armory. The slide show was a precursor to Joe Gagliardi’s talk on the same subject.
Joe then elaborated on Northway. The founder and namesake of the Northway Truck Company first became involved in the auto industry with the Dodge Brothers in 1902. The Northway Plant opened in 1918, with $5.5 million of initial capitalization through stock sales and a $50,000.00 government contract.
In 1921, the auto industry comes upon hard times and many companies failed.
In 1922, the Northway Truck Company is reorganized as Amalgamated Motors Corporation. However, even with the reorganization and additional capital of $8 million, the Company struggles.
In 1925, the Company shuts down, as it is $20 million in the red.
In 1933, the National Guard took over the site.
