Five Minutes with Peter Golden:

Peter spoke about his youth. His father was a procurement officer during WWII, doing his part for the war effort. As a treat, the family went to Province Town when he was two years old. He remembers it being a quiet town when he could play on the street with no practice. His father would take his target practice at the sun to fulfill his requirement.

He remembers the barber having an Iron Lung for victims of Polio.

When he lived in Newton Center, he remembers the sound of the Steam Engines going through town.

In 1950 he lived in Brighton where he became a Newsy pushing a cart around town or working a street corner. Later he had a job as a pin boy at the local bowling alley. This was a cool job with big money. The downside was that one had to be very quick in resetting the pins so not to get hit.

Dennis’ business specializes in working with Millennial. A few ideas that he shared:

1. Millennials are those born between 1982 – 2000 – 91 million of them

2. Very soon they will be a very large consumer group – greater than baby boomers

3. These people will likely be managing and running things within 10 years.

4. Companies who hire millennials will find that they bring a lot to the job, great with technology.

5. They are able to multitask/toggle between tasks.

6. They can work all hours and tend to be project based.

7. Some Concerns about millennials:

a. Interpersonal relationships – less personal contacts.

b. Not as skilled with face to face interactions, selling

c. Not great at understanding the big picture.

d. How well do they handle the multiple distractions?

8. Millennials have a different view of information

a. Everyone is a publisher – blogs, videos, social media

b. It can be difficult to determine how accurate information is.

9. The most productive workers work from home
