Natick Rotary Sprocket
September 23, 2014
The meeting was called to order by President Judy Shea. Joe Gagliardi led us in the Pledge. Verna had our guest, Nancy Zare (and eventually us) singing “Simple Gifts”. Andy Meyer provided the Invocation.
Guests: Nancy Zare (singer and speaker)
Announcements:
· Artie Fair: Because of many generous donors, the golf tourney was very successful. All proceeds benefit our grant and community service programs. Many thanks to Artie and Peter Burke for organizing another great event.
· Judy Shea: Many thanks to all tourney volunteers: Sharon, Linda, Vinny Andy Mark, George R, Trish, etc.
· Bryant: On behalf of Social Committee – Museum of Science event is 10/25. Email was sent outlining day’s festivities. It’s an all-day affair – starting with 9am brunch at Hotel Marlo. Exhibits start at 11am. Group rate is $15/person. Commitments are needed, if interested – contact Bryant or Rachel.
· Judy Shea:
· EAF yard sale is Sunday 9/28 (9am – 2pm). Set-up on Saturday (9/27) 2-4pm at Stones Auto. There are plenty of items to sell – if you have high value items to donate, please contact Judy. Volunteers are desperately needed on Saturday to deliver items to Stones Auto and on Sunday to help set-up (7am!) and to help during the yard sale.
· Thank you Vinny and Trish for Natick Days.
· Membership/District Forum: Judy and Mark Soloway both went. Mark was phenomenal on the new member’s panel. Sotia Mitra ran the event and will also be speaking at Natick Rotary on 10/14 – guests are welcome.
· Rabbi Kushner is our speaker on 10/21. Other clubs and guests are invited – please contact Judy if you plan to bring guests.
· Community Grant process is ongoing. Please spread the word to local non-profits.
· RLI – is November 1st. Vinny is attending.
· Peter G: Open door schedule is booked through the end of the year. Peter would like to pick a few nights and have rotary members attend and socialize with the guests. List of dates for Rotary sponsored Open Door is forthcoming.
Speaker: Our speaker today was Nancy Zare, a guest of George Richards. Nancy, a BNI Network member, is the owner of Rapport Builderz and a communication consultant and expert. She is a retired professor and earned her doctorate at Boston College. Her passion is helping people overcome their frustrations in getting their point across while successfully connecting with their clients and colleagues. We all sat back and buckled up as Nancy presented a simple system that increases client acquisition and retention by 300%. Nancy handed out personality assessments to each club member and subsequently discussed our personalities, which range from Blueprints (orderly); Action (bottom line folks); nurturing (charitable); and Knowledge (scientific). She went on to explain further about each personality type. However, the key is not understanding your own personality type, but how to identify the (4) personality types you are selling to. For further info, contact Nancy at Rapport Builderz.
Raffle: Rachel had the ticket but not the card
