GUEST SPEAKER: Susan Ramsey, Director, Council on Aging

The Council on Aging falls under the Community Services Department in Natick. It is a resource for people of all ages in town. It was established in 1969 by Board of Selectmen, and is funded by the Federal Government who gives money to the State and they disperse it to the various Councils. They are 1 of 351 throughout the state.

They advocate for Seniors and prepare them for life changes that come with aging, in an attempt to give them greater independence. They served 3300 Seniors last year. They hold a variety of events including special speakers, and public meetings on points of interest. Some of the programs are our own St Patrick’s Day Brunch, Yoga classes, Dance classes, volleyball, and author appreciation groups. Support groups for Grandparents raising children, health care and health care plans, and tax preparation.

They are a staff of 7 with over 200 dedicated volunteers. The Friends of Natick Seniors are great supporters of the Council and they form other agencies collaborating for the benefit of Seniors.

Several questions followed Susan talk, and a good round of applause followed.

RAFFLE: Mark B had the right ticket but not the right card
