Speaker:

Guest Speaker was Colleen Phelps, from the Strivers Girls Running Club. She thanked EAF for the invitation. She started the all-girls running club with partner Kathy Landry. The original idea was to provide an additional sport for girls. More than just a running club, Strivers provides confidence, self-esteem, and it also encourages girls to help others in their communities.

It is open to girls in the 5 – 7 grades. There are non-competitive work outs that foster teamwork and camaraderie. The program lasts 6 weeks in which time girls are taught running techniques as they prepare to run a 5K.

Previous speakers for the girls include Joan Benoit Samuelson, Uta Pippig, and Travis Roy.

Strivers hosts the Jingle Bell run in December for the Natick Service Council, and the Strivers Mother’s Day run for Embrace a Family which happened just a few weeks ago. Colleen was pleased to present EAF a check today for $3,400.00 from the proceeds of the Mom’s Day 5K.Running is a sport of good will. Everyone cheers. No one boos. It is common to help and cheer for strangers.

Colleen received a standing ovation from Rotarians.

Raffle:

Eric L. had the lucky number – but no luck with the queen. Better luck next time.

Fondly Submitted –
