President Judy called the meeting to order.
Today was a field trip! We met at the Mass Audubon’s Broadmoor Wildlife Sanctuary.
As such, we dispensed with many of our regular meeting traditions. We skipped the pledge, invocation, announcements, happy dollars, and went right to the program speaker
Elisa Landry is the Director of the Board
She explained that all middle school and elementary school students in the town visit Broadmoor. It currently occupies 624 acres in Natick and Sherborn.
There are 9 miles of walking trails and programs for people of all ages. Programs include the upcoming Birds/Breakfast Mother’s Day breakfast this coming Sunday. Another program is called a Stars Party with former Natick High teacher Ed Jamison.
This is not a park, she explained. It is a wildlife habitat. There are 500 species of plants. It is a lovely spot in which people can simply ‘get away.’
There are no dogs allowed, and no bikes. other than that, all are welcome. There are 5 miles of cross country ski trails. It is closed Mondays, but otherwise open year round. They receive 22,000 visitors per year. Members of Audubon Society are free to enter. Natick residents are free Tuesday through Friday. Yearly family memberships are $32.00
After the talk, and a lunch (thanks Scott and Rachel for making those arrangements) the meeting adjourned and members walked through the property.
