Our guest speaker was Michelle Smith, Executive Director of Women of Means
Women of Means provides healthcare in 7 shelters for families and is gender specific. There is a need for women who are afraid of the system. They would be met outside the walls of a typical clinic. The first shelter that provided space was Rosie’s, 3 times per week. The also have a clinic at Womens Lunch 5 times per week. These clinics are funded through grants and individuals.
Additionally, they provide services in family shelters. Not only women, but children as well. They service 100 families at the Home Suites in Waltham, and 5 Families at Mary’s House.
Through another program Medical home without walls, they provide Eldercare, with a reductiion of 68% hospital visits and 60% ER visits, all saving the Commonwealth funds.
Michelle encourages to look at the website, www.womenofmeans.org for more information.
